great man

There were many great inventors during the technological revolution. Technology changed the United States for the better. Technology helped the way people lived their lives. There are three men, that helped change the way we live our lives.

Thomas A. Edison created the light bulb. The light bulb helped everyone greatly. It gave people light to see what they were doing. If factories had lights then people could work longer and jobs could higher more people. Edison also invented the phonograph. It was an early record player.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. The telephone helped people communicate with one another. It saved a lot of time because if you wanted to talk to someone in another state all you have to do is pick up the phone and call. Instead of writing a letter. He also invented the company AT & T, which is still around today.

Andrew Carnegie was the poster-child of a rags to riches story. Carnegie was born in Scotland and came to America in 1848. Carnegie decided to invest his money in steel instead of iron. He made millions by doing this. When Carnegie died he gave 350 million dollars to charity.

So that is how this men changed the world for the better. Every invention that these men are famous for are still around today. Like the light bulb and the telephone. They made lives easier for everybody.

Slavery vs. Extinciton

When we were in class last week we learned about Native Americans. We learned about how Native Americans got killed for no reason. We also learned about how Native Americans had to stay in one area, and by the governments force were not allowed to leave. So here is the question, who had it worse African Americans or the Native Americans?

The reason why people might think Native Americans had it worse was because for one thing Native Americans are pretty much extincted. They are extincted because the white settlers killed Native Americans for no reason. The white settlers would kill the buffalo, which means the Native Americans had no food to eat. Another thing was the government made some groups of Native Americans stay in their reservoirs and made sure that the Native Americans did not leave. So that means the Native Americans could not hunt buffalo, which means Native Americans would die.

The reason why African Americans had it worse was because Africans got took from their homeland and were forced to work for the white man. If Africans refused to work they would be beaten with a whip until they either worked or die from the loss of blood. Also innocent African women would get raped by the slave owner and most of the time would have a bastard child. Families would be spilt up and they would never see each other again.

So that is how the African Americans had it worse, and how the Native Americans had it worse. Both groups of people had to go through a lot to survive over the years. One group is booming while the other group is trying to survive. Now the decision is up to you to decide who had it worse!

South winning the Civil War.

On Friday our block 4 class was getting ready for our test that we are going to take on Tuesday. I was thinking in my head about all this stuff we have learned about the reconstruction and how it affects our lives today. Like what if the south really did win the Civil War, how would our lives be different? One thing i think would of happened is slavery would still be around today. The Fourteeth Amendment would of never been thought of, because the south would be in charge.
We would not have the Freedman's Bureau which congress established in March of 1865. If you do not know what that is, that was aid to freed people and it helped African Americans adjust to freedom. The Freedman's Bureau helped African Americans by building schools in their community and also taught blacks how to read and write. Another thing is how would the country be?
One thing is we would not of been having a black person running for president. The country would probably be ran by a white slave owner. How would the government pick who is running for president if the south won the Civil War? Would they pick a person for their political ability or who ever had the most slaves and power.
Another thing is we would not have a big immigration problem, if the south won the Civil War because the country would have slaves. The country would not need cheap labor from European countries or Mexico. If the south won I think our country would just be made up of black and white people. We would not have Asians, Middle Eastern , or European people in the United States.
So that is some of the things i thought about when i was sitting in Mrs. Garbers class on Friday. How different things would of been if the south won the Civil War. How not diverse the country would be. So anytime you think things are bad just think if the south won the Civil War.

United States vs. South Africa

There is a lot of differences between the United States and South Africa. Many people think that the United States and South Africa have similarities but they only have a few.
A big difference is the United States had the Civil War, where South Africa had an apartheid. An apartheid is forced segregation. Another is the length of the conflict in America it only lasted 4 years. Where in South America it was lasted 40 years. The history of conflict was colonration.
In South Africa the main conflict is colonration, and segregation. The main and racial factors is enslavement and forced migration of Africans. For South Africa colonization of African land by British and Dutch. Other racial issues was the mistreatment of migrant workers. Some people that got mistreated where the Chinesse, Irish, Pollocks, and the Italians. In South Africa was the mistreatment of migrant workers, who were Indians.
The constitution in America just got amended in America, where in South Africa they wrote a new constitution. The party leading reconstruction of America was the Republican party. Where in South Africa it was the African National Congress. Another thing that people might not know is that in America, slaves could own land, and try to by their freedom from their owners. Where in South Africa it was law that black Africans could not be in the city after dark. That is not fair!
So that is how the United States and South Africa differ from one another. In my opinon i think that the slaves in America had it harder then in South Africa. At least in South Africa they could have jobs and could work for who ever they wanted to work for. In America the slaves had to work for one owner or many owners in harsh conditions and might not even get paid for what they do. That is some of the reasons why the slaves had it harder then the apartheid that was going on in South Africa.
