United States vs. South Africa

There is a lot of differences between the United States and South Africa. Many people think that the United States and South Africa have similarities but they only have a few.
A big difference is the United States had the Civil War, where South Africa had an apartheid. An apartheid is forced segregation. Another is the length of the conflict in America it only lasted 4 years. Where in South America it was lasted 40 years. The history of conflict was colonration.
In South Africa the main conflict is colonration, and segregation. The main and racial factors is enslavement and forced migration of Africans. For South Africa colonization of African land by British and Dutch. Other racial issues was the mistreatment of migrant workers. Some people that got mistreated where the Chinesse, Irish, Pollocks, and the Italians. In South Africa was the mistreatment of migrant workers, who were Indians.
The constitution in America just got amended in America, where in South Africa they wrote a new constitution. The party leading reconstruction of America was the Republican party. Where in South Africa it was the African National Congress. Another thing that people might not know is that in America, slaves could own land, and try to by their freedom from their owners. Where in South Africa it was law that black Africans could not be in the city after dark. That is not fair!
So that is how the United States and South Africa differ from one another. In my opinon i think that the slaves in America had it harder then in South Africa. At least in South Africa they could have jobs and could work for who ever they wanted to work for. In America the slaves had to work for one owner or many owners in harsh conditions and might not even get paid for what they do. That is some of the reasons why the slaves had it harder then the apartheid that was going on in South Africa.

You did a pretty good job of discussing the way these people were treated in both countries. The Africans had it bad on both ends, but the way they were treated in South Africa was just horrible. I could not imagine being forced to live that kind of life, and going through so much hardship over something that I should rightfully have from birth.

I liked how you mentioned the results of each event: the slavery during Civil War in America, and the apartheid in South Africa. Also, your comparison of the mistreatments of migrant workers and black people during the Civil War and the apartheid; really made me think about how the slaves had it harder on one end and the Africans on the other end. The slaves had to endure brutal consequences from their owners and they were not allowed to own property. Yet, I feel that the Africans suffering from the apartheid in South Africa had endured same amount of pain, and hardships as the slaves in America. The Africans had to endure oppression from the government and they had to struggle for their very basic rights normally guaranteed to human beings at birth. Nice job...keep it up!

I like your blog on how slavery in America is different from apartheid in South Africa. It helped remind me of what we learned from the video and in class on thursday. Though you displayed many differences, there are also alot of similiarities. For one thing, both have the oppression on dark-colored races, caucasion people were the dominant race and controlled the country, both have revolts, dark-colored people were considered inferior and of course the most important, the segregation between white and black/dark-colored. Despite my agrument, i think your blog is great!

You did a good job talking about the hardships that the Africans had in South Africa and the slaves in America faced. Not to take away from the hardships of the South Africans, but i agree in saying that i think the slaves had worse situation to deal with. The slaves had absolutely no rights or freedom at all the South Africans didn't have much but they did have some.

I agree with what you said about South Africans during the Apartheid having it harder than slaves in America to some extent. Even though the South Africans could choose their field of work, they had barely any generous people surrounding them that were willing to help them. During the Civil War, at least some slaves were able to escape the torture via the
'underground railroad.' It seems like South Africans still have it pretty harsh considering that their country isn't nearly as technologically developed as the United States.

the thing i likeed about your blog was that how you showed some examples of the similarites the united and sout africa were going throught like trying to make the reconstuction work for everyone. even though both africans were treated bad on both side i think south africans had it worse because after aparited there was alot of wars, fighting between poltical leaders too.
